William Morris
| William Morris Biography William Morris (1834-96) was a poet, socialist and proponent of the English Arts and Crafts Movement. William Morris works William Morris was one of the originators of the Oxford and Cambridge Magazine (1856) and in 1858 he published The Defence of Guenevere and other poems which contained some of his most celebrated works including ‘The Haystack in the Floods’, ‘Shameful Death’ and ‘Golden Wings.’ William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement In the mid-nineteenth century William Morris established the firm of Morris, Marshall, Falkener and Co. which produced furniture, printed textiles, tapestries, wallpapers and stained glass. Kelmscott Press The Kelmscott Press was founded at Hammersmith in 1890 and was responsible for publishing works by Morris, reprints of English classics and smaller books by various artists. Morris designed the ornamental letters and borders. William Morris and the Cotswolds William Morris took a joint tenancy of Kemlscott Manor in 1871 where he lived until his death in 1896. Broadway Tower was as a country retreat by William Morris and there is a room dedicated to his most famous works and designs. |
