Beatrix Potter
| Beatrix Potter Biography Beatrix (Helen) Potter (1866-1943) was born in Kensington to wealthy parents and did not attend school. She taught herself how to draw natural objects from a young age and in 1893, began to write The Tale of Peter Rabbit which was published at her own expense in 1901. The Tailor of Gloucestershire shortly followed in 1902. She bought a farm at Sawrey in the Lake District in 1905 which became the backdrop for six of her books. Beatrix Potter and the Cotswolds The second book of the popular ‘Peter Rabbit’ stories, The Tailor of Gloucestershire, was inspired by a visit to the county. The actual house of the tailor is located by Gloucester Cathedral and can be visited. |
