Headlam Spa
Headlam Spa is a place to relax, exercise and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of water and authentic spa therapy in a comfortable and friendly environment that reflects the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
The location of the spa in the beautiful Durham Dales countryside, is perfect for those wishing to visit, or arrive from, the Durham, Barnard Castle, Newton Aycliffe and Darlington areas. Peace and seclusion yet easily accessed. They offer authentic spa therapy and stunning facilities that include:
Pool: A 14m x 6m deck level swimming pool heated to 27-29 degrees C with side access steps, water jet feature and a constant depth of 1.2m.
Outdoor Hydrotherapy Pool: A mosaic tiled spa pool heated to 37 degrees C with a combination of water and air jets offering relaxing and therapeutic water massage.
Spa Terrace: The south facing terrace is a real sun trap and has the added advantage of an electrically retractable awning for year round use.
Sauna: A 3m x 2m cabin made from Swedish pine with temperatures between 80-90 degrees C giving a hot, dry environment with low humidity. An excellent means of eliminating toxins from the body through perspiration leaving muscles and skin feeling relaxed and cleansed.
Steam Room: A stunning 3m x 2m cabin with beautiful dark blue mosaic tiles and fibre optic lighting to give a highly atmospheric feel. Heated between 43-46 degrees C with 100% humidity, the steam room aides circulation and relaxation of tense muscles. The steam is also infused with herb extracts to give a pleasant and cleansing aroma.
Changing Rooms: The luxury changing rooms are finished to the highest standards.
Spa Lounge: A relaxing area with a feature stone fireplace, luxurious and comfortable furnishings including sofas and easy chairs and a juice bar serving fresh fruit juice, coffee, teas and snacks.
Gym: A superb 70 square metre air-conditioned room with the latest equipment from Technogym. There are 7 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, all with personal TV's and 8 pieces of strength equipment. There is also a studio with sprung beech floor for fitness classes.
Brasserie: A stylish bar area serving informal food and drinks with fantastic views over the golf course and countryside.
Spa Therapies: There are 5 beautifully appointed treatment rooms at Headlam Spa including a double room so you can enjoy a treatment with your partner or a friend.
Spa use (2 hour slots) and treatments must be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
Monday to Saturday: 7am to 9pm (last entry 8.30pm), Sunday: 8am to 9pm (last entry 8.30pm)
Under 16's (swimming pool only and accompanied by a swimming adult)
Monday to Friday: 8am-9am & 4pm-5.30pm, Saturday & Sunday: 8am-10am & 4pm-5.30pm

Leisure facilities
9 Hole Golf Course
Set over rolling pastureland around the Hall gardens this enjoyable and challenging course features an abundance of natural features including rig & fur, woodland, streams and ponds making it a test for the most experienced of golfers. The course has a wide variety of holes from the daunting 116 yard 'Pond Hole' to the long 523 yard 'Sleeters' par 5.
The full size greens have been constructed to USGA specification with irrigation and offer some of the best playing surfaces in the region. The golf course is open to non-members and offers golf packages and special breaks.
There is a 10 bay covered driving range, a practice chipping area and practice putting green. The resident PGA professional is available for tuition and the golf shop stocks a wide range of equipment and accessories and clothing.
E-bike hire
The hotel have two e-bikes available for residents to hire. With a battery range of around 50 miles these e-bikes are a relaxing and fun way to explore the surrounding countryside on two wheels with the powerful electric motor making easy work of hills.
Full day hire rate (10am-6pm): £50 per bike, Half day hire rate (10am-1pm or 3pm-6pm): £35 per bike.
You can book the bikes in advance of your arrival by emailing your request to [email protected], there is no penalty for cancelling on the day due to bad weather.
Fly fishing
Tuition & Guiding from either Olly Shepherd or Richie Morris. This experience is for people who have never held a rod to experienced anglers. Please contact us for details
