Other Information

Some of the tiny local village's most beautiful old buildings are thanks to Sir William Craven, who rose from poverty to become Lord Mayor of London in 1611. He returned to his home county of Yorkshire where he used his new-found wealth to build Burnsall's school building and restore the 13th century Church of St Wilfrid.

The hotel's fabulous location is so awe-inspiring that when the producers of the 2003 film the Calendar Girls wanted a quintessential Yorkshire village and summer fête, Burnsall was the location they chose. The charming village of Burnsall can be seen throughout the film and needless to say it was an overnight success around the world.

With an illustrious past and contemporary interiors, this hideaway hotel celebrates eccentricity and indulges the senses. Use it as a base to explore Bolton Abbey's 30,000 acres, or just sit back, relax, and take in the inspiring vista.

History of the hotel

The Devonshire Fell itself was built as a gentlemen's club, but quickly evolved into a hotel. It was taken over by the Bolton Abbey Estate in 1999, and restored by the current Duchess of Devonshire.

Dogs Policy

Dogs are welcome in certain rooms, there is a charge of £15 per dog per night.  A warm welcome awaits our guests and their four-legged friends. Dogs and their owners will enjoy, with equal anticipation, access to acres of off-road walks directly from the hotel in the Yorkshire Dales. There are beautiful views, woods and riverside walks – all to be explored together.

Complimentary spa use

A 60 minute spa access at sister hotel  Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa is included in your stay.  Just a 15-20min drive, this must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.
