Parking & Access Information for July Reservations Date: 10 May 2026

The Old Swan Hotel will be hosting the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival with Harrogate International Festivals in July 2026. This event is hosted both inside the building and on the hotel grounds, therefore using our parking areas.

Please see the following dates as to what parking will be available:

Friday 17th our rear car park will close, and all vehicles will need to be moved no later than 9am on Friday morning.

Saturday 18th our front car park to the left of the driveway will close, and all vehicles will need to be moved no later than 9pm on Saturday evening.

From Saturday 18th to & Tuesday 21st there will be limited parking at the front of the hotel. All vehicles will need to be moved no later than 8am on Wednesday morning.

From Wednesday 22nd there will be no parking available on the premises until Monday 27th.

From Monday 27th there will be limited parking at the front of the hotel until parking resumes as normal from Wednesday 29th.

Please be aware that access to the hotel will not be available until 3 PM on the Sunday 26th. Due to the private festival taking place at the property, we are unable to accept early arrivals under any circumstances. Therefore, guests will be unable to use the hotel facilities, including luggage storage and the Swan Bar & Lounge area, as the entire premises is booked for this function, which is due to end on this date. We kindly ask that guests plan travel accordingly.

Additionally, as parking will be extremely limited on the days following the event, if guests are travelling by car, we highly recommend exploring nearby public parking options in advance. Free on street parking is available, using disc zones on nearby roads for up to 3 hours, or guests use Duchy Road where there are no parking restrictions.

Car parking is available on site at an additional charge of £12.00 per car, per day. 

This is valid from your arrival time until midday on the day of your departure.

Is The Old Swan Hotel accessible for disabled guests?

There are no ground floor or fully accessible rooms.

The hotel does have a lift but some stair access is required to some rooms.

There are limited Classic rooms with walk in showers that can be requested. These cannot be guaranteed as rooms are allocated the day before arrival.

This hotel is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.

Can children stay at The Old Swan Hotel?

Children can be accommodated in selected Executive rooms with a maximum of one extra bed per room. Beds are charged at £30 per child per night including breakfast. 

Children are chargeable up to the age of 16. Cots are provided free of charge. Please contact us to check suitable room availability.

History of the hotel

The Old Swan Hotel has a history going back nearly 200 years, including being the tranquil haven that the mistress of crime-writing, Agatha Christie, famously disappeared to in 1926. This resulted in a public furore lasting 11 days when she could not be traced - only to be found under the pseudonym of 'Mrs Teresa Neele' from Cape Town.

Does The Old Swan Hotel allow dogs?

All rooms are dogs friendly, there is an additional charge of £10.00 per dog per night. A maximum of 2 dogs per room.

Dogs are not permitted in the restaurant, guests can dine in the bar area. Dogs must not be left unattended.
