John Singer Sargent

John Singer Sargent (1856-1925), although born in Florence to expatriate American parents, has a number of links with the Cotswolds. Producing arguably his most famous masterpiece ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose’ whilst staying at Broadway, his work was pivotal to the English impressionism movement. In his lifetime he painted over 500 portraits, more than 1000 landscapes and celebrated murals at the Boston Public Library, the Museum of Fine Arts and Widener Memorial Library at Harvard.
